Kate: Dip Couns, BSc (Hons) Psych (Open)

Counsellor in Malmesbury

One of Kate's strengths is the ability to speak to anyone regardless of race, creed, colour or background. She has lived both abroad and in the UK and has an understanding of what it feels like to live in a different culture. Due to moving around, it also helped her find her own inner strength in meeting new people and making new friends. She has lived in North Wiltshire for nearly fifteen years.

Professionally, Kate holds a diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the Open University. She is a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy working towards accreditation and a graduate member of the British Psychological Society. She is committed to continuing professional development and will be taking a diploma in Psychotherapy in Autumn 2010. She has Reiki level 1.

She has worked with clients both in the short term and longer term with clients experiencing bereavement, relationship issues, self harm, alcohol problems and mild mental health issues. Her experience has been gained from working for Swindon Alcohol and Drug Service and Hope Counselling services. Please ask if you would like to know more about how Kate can help you or if there is an area that is not covered.

Occasionally clients present with issues that require extra support; if extra information would support clients then this will be offered: additionally if there are areas where a client would be better supported elsewhere, this will be fully discussed and handled sensitively.

Kate was originally inspired to take a psychology degree with the Open University in order to try and make sense of her own life. After a move to Switzerland in 1970, many changes occurred in her life. Always a seeker, ultimately she found peace in her studies which enabled her to put together some aspects of how people "tick", most of all herself.

But being a never-ending path, she wanted to help others understand and make sense of their lives, so gained a diploma in Therapeutic Counselling after many years of study!

Realising that life is sometimes about difficult feelings that seem to have no sense or logic she understood more about the "process" of life changes. She believes that feelings and thoughts are irrevocably intertwined within the society we find ourselves in.

It appears the combination of psychology, hidden processes and ways of being seem to help many people including herself and rather than keeping it to herself felt it was something she wanted to give to others.
